"Colin and I dated for almost 8 years before we got engaged, so our lives have become so intertwined. Our relationship was just a series of great stories, insides jokes, and laughter, so we wanted to celebrate our history and the people that were there with us along the way. We're both a little quirky, and we knew we wanted to stray from the traditional - so our design aesthetic was filled with bright colors, punchy graphics and silly details.
I designed our invitations - each icon represented stories from our past. (I eventually printed it out, and it hangs with all the artwork we got on our honeymoon in our living room!) We used those same graphics for our website, menus, coasters, and little pins that the guests could take with them. I made special pins for everyone in our wedding party that represented our favorite stories with each of them. Even our food stations were inspired by moments from our past. We had "His" - Mexican - which is our go-to meal of choice in Kansas City // "Hers" - Brunch - because we spent a lot of time at Ihop for late night pancakes before we started dating // and "Ours" - Sliders - because he made me burgers on our first date! Even our signature drink (the Nancy) was from our favorite restaurant in Manhattan.
We also wanted our family incorporated as much as we could. The centerpieces at the front of the church were my grandmother's candle sticks. Each had a name of the people that were there in spirit. I walked down the aisle to my grandfather's favorite song to play on the piano - Claire De Lune, and wore my mom's wedding band for my old, borrowed and blue! Even the late night snacks were the chocolate chip cookies that are a staple in the Campbell fam (Colin and his mom made them from scratch!)
One moment of panic came when we realized they had closed the street outside the front door of our reception space, but it turned out totally fine and we got some GORGEOUS photos of downtown kansas city on the middle of main street!
We couldn't have done any of this without the help of our amazing family. Carolyn literally made all of my dreams come true. Colin's mom Cathy sewed and ironed 150 different brightly colored cloth napkins. My brother surprised us with a Limo exit at the end of the night. Even our sweet family friends, Pat and Jodi (who own 2016 main) were flipping French toast in the kitchen when our caterers ran out! It could not have been a more perfect or wonderful day. (Dream team!)". - Mary, the bride
