Inspiration: Cinco de Mayo Wedding Part I

It’s always so inspiring to see what creative minds can put together when they collaborate.  This shoot was put together by Melissa McCrotty, and Lesleigh Smith from The Barn at Twin Oaks Ranch.  Lesleigh said the main inspiration for the shoot came from the fact that she wanted to show clients that a barn wedding doesn’t have to be “country” it can be anything.  They decided to style the shoot around a Cinco de Mayo inspiration, and did different fun set ups using two different couples.  Such fun ideas, I love the succulents on the soft white table, and the bright colors on the Day of the Dead inspired table.

Love is Sweet: Bake Sale Dessert Buffet

I’m so excited to be kicking off a brand new feature on Middle of the Map called “Love is Sweet”.  The inspiration for this new feature came to me when the talented Erin Johnson submitted an inspiration shoot that featured seven (yes seven) different dessert buffets.  With so many amazing events now sharing candy and dessert bars that are as tasty as they are lovely it seemed like a perfect fit for MOTM.  Today I’m kicking things off with the bake sale inspired buffet created by Erin Johnson Photography in collaboration with Sarah of On Solid Ground Vintage Rentals.  These ladies styled each buffet with care, and created lots of hand made elements, such as the banners, and picks for this particular shoot.  Erin says she loved having the vintage aprons hanging in the background, and Sarah added her own antique scales and milk jugs.  Great work ladies, can’t wait to share the rest in the months to come!

Location: Spill the Wine.  Desserts: Sweets Bakeshop.

Do you have a wedding with a beautiful cake, or a dessert or candy buffet you think should be featured on Middle of the Map?  I’m NOW taking submissions for future “Love is Sweet” features, so send them my way!

Inspiration: Vintage Tea Bridal Shower

The inspiration posts we share on the blog are often styled shoots created by wedding professionals.  However this post is a real bridal shower.  Lindsay’s wedding was vintage themed, and so her bridesmaids thought it was only fitting to throw her a shower that would reflect her style.  They collected tons of vintage items from local shops, and asked guests to bring along their own tea cups and mugs to enjoy their drinks out of.  The bridesmaids did all the decorated and crafted stationary, name tags, and other decor just for the occasion.  A big thank you to Karen Feder Photography for sharing this sweet event!

Saturday Matinee: Oliver and Amy in Motion

The Saturday Matinee isn’t just for videographers and filmmakers.  When Heather of Hawes Photography  sent me this sweet little stop-motion video they put together for Oliver and Amy’s day, I knew it had to be shared.  Such a fun, and unique alternative to a film.  Thanks so much for sending this my way Heather!

Here’s a few stills from their day as well…

Engagement Session: Valerie and Brian, Pingree Grove, Illinois

Valerie submitted her and Brian’s e-session along with their love story.  They met when Valerie was 19 years old at a party at Brian’s house.  Valerie says that she took one look into “those baby blues” and the rest was history.  Five years later Brian took Valerie on a romantic tour of all the places that were important in their relationship, and then he got down on one knee in front of 60 roses (representing each month they’d been together) and asked her to say “I Do”.  For their engagement shots Valerie knew she wanted her best friend from college, Whitney Huynh, to take the pictures.  The shot in the small town where they live in all types of fun rustic locations.  Thanks so much to Valerie and Brian for sharing their sweet e-session with us and to Whitney for the lovely images.
