Inspiration: Minnesota Farm Wedding

Minnesota Winter Wedding Inspiration

It’s been awhile since we shared an inspiration shoot, and with the weather as chilly as it is here in the midwest, this Minnesota farm wedding hits the mark perfectly.  With lovely images by one of our favorites, Erin Johnson, and a whole bunch of other amazing midwest vendors.  Here’s a little more about the inspiration from the shoot from Erin’s blog:

We are THRILLED to show you this post!  We found inspiration for this shoot in Carly’s Camilla Spode china {inherited from her grandmother}, red dogwood branches in the snow and Amy, Hannah and Nina–these three BEAUTIFUL girls!  {Oh…and Cian! Sorry, Cian!}.   Carly and I called on some of our favorite vendors to join us and this fun, vintage, winter shoot was born.Ashley, from Simply Elegant Bridal Consulting connected us with Seven Oaks Farm in Stillwater, Minnesota and we instantly fell in love.  Pulling onto Seven Oaks Farm is like pulling into Bing Crosby’s movie, Holiday Inn.  It’s picturesque and quaint and the perfect place for a wedding…and Carolyn and Herb, the owners, couldn’t be kinder or more accommodating.  The farm has beautiful, white-washed out-buildings—one of which is Wisconsin-style barn with a huge hay loft {and the site of our shoot}.

We set our scene with lots of lovely goods from On-Solid Ground Vintage RentalsLime Canary Vintage Rentals, and Festivities.   The Simply Elegant Bridal Consulting team and Sarah, from On-Solid Ground, joined us to pull everything together on-site.  It was such a blast to collaborate with these gals!
Local artists, Rachel and Allison Pegoraro created a one-of –a-kind thumbprint guest book. Allison Pegoraro lent a taxidermy faun, antlers and faun skins to bring in a bit of the quirk we’re known for. And, we can’t say enough about Rosann Konieczny Calligraphy! Her work totally elevated the invitations Carly made just for the shoot.

And, we were thrilled to have Chowgirls Killer Catering put out a beautiful and super tasty spread, along with the incredible custom sweets tables from Sweets Bakeshop.

To dress our models, we borrowed estate furs and vintage jewelry from Brides of France and dressed the bride in re-imagined couture gowns made especially for the occasion by JenMar Creations.  Christina, owner of Something Borrowed, came out with her entire inventory of veils and headpieces.  Dani and Angie from Salon Etica killed it with their beautiful hairstyles and I can’t get enough of the coral lips and cheeks {Make-up by Lydia at Salon Rox}.

Floral Friday: A Bouquet of Sunshine

When you think of the color yellow what’s the first word that pops into your head.  Happy?  Me too, and that’s just what these beautiful flowers make me, super, duper happy (especially with winter fast approaching).  There’s so much to love, the variety of texture, the lovely boutonnieres, the soft grey dusty miller as a counterpoint to the bright yellow.  Plus who doesn’t love a good billy ball now and then, and it doesn’t hurt when the bride and groom look like models!  A huge thanks to Cathy and David Photographers for sharing, and to White Iris Designs for their beautiful flowers.  Happy Friday everyone!

Love is Sweet: Circus Dessert Buffet

Today we’ve got another crazy adorable dessert buffet from the team that brought you this cuteness.  First of all, who doesn’t love a circus?  Second, who doesn’t love dessert?  If you’re anything like me this table is perfect, and not only would it make a fabulous table at a themed wedding or shower, but it could also work at a birthday party, baby shower, you name it.  Erin says they hung the fabric, and created hand made signs.  They lined the cupcakes in the background on the rails of an old carnival game, and Erin created the adorable cupcake picks as well.  A big thank you to her and her lovely team for yet another lovely display of delicious confections!

Real Weddings: Susan and Jason, St.Louis, Missouri

If I could pick one single word to sum up Susan and Jason’s wedding it would be classic.  From the gorgeous white bouquet, to the beautiful bride and her lace dress, the beautiful monogrammed cake, and the elegant gold and white reception decor, everything about it seems timeless and romantic.  Susan says she had always dreamed of getting married, playing dress up, and planning her special day.  Fortunately for her her older brother introduced her to Jason, and the rest is history.  A big thank you to Susan for sharing all the amazing details of the day!

From the bride, Susan…

A formal yet fun tone was set for our wedding starting with our engagement.  Jason enlisted the help of our dear friend and incredibly talented stationer, Courtney Callahan of Courtney Callahan Paper. She designed a heartfelt invitation that I found in our mailbox from Jason inviting me to a “celebration of our love…past, present and future”.  After an amazing engagement weekend last July, the wedding planning began!

We both grew up in Missouri and knew the wedding would be in my hometown of St. Louis.  My parents joined Greenbriar Hills Country Club the year I was born, it is such a special place to us and there was never a question that it would be our reception site.

To add to the magic of the ceremony, my oldest and closest friend Shannon and her husband Garrett sang a duet of One Hand, One Heart as we lit the Unity Candle. It was the most beautiful and breathtaking thing I have ever heard, I get teary eyed just thinking about how amazing they sounded (they have both sung professionally).  We chose the song because our wedding date was my aunt and uncle’s 40th wedding anniversary and they had One Hand, One Heart at their wedding. It was a meaningful and special moment in so many ways!

With an April wedding date we had an array of gorgeous spring flowers to choose from.  My vision was for a very romantic, elegant yet warm candlelit reception. I wanted lots of white flowers but left the rest of the creative decisions up to genius floral designer Barb Wehking of Bloomin’ Buckets.  My bouquet was filled with fragrant peonies, gardenias, English garden roses and stephanotis.

Both of my grandmother’s are no longer with us, but it was important that they be a part of our wedding.  Both had impeccable class and style so it was easy to incorporate their chic vintage pieces.  I wore one grandmother’s broach as a hair piece and carried her hand beaded pearl clutch.  And due to the unusually cool April temps, I wore my other grandma’s silver fox stole to keep me warm!  Additionally, my mom and her sister’s all wore the same veil of handmade Belgium lace at their weddings.  It had become too fragile for me to wear so we used it as an overlay on the cake table.  It stood out beautifully against the federal blue linen and provided a focal point as guests entered the dining room.  Another touch of family sentiment came with Jason’s mom and her siblings surprised him by singing an incredible a cappella prayer before dinner.

Since Courtney Callahan Paper did such a fabulous job on the engagement piece, we hired her to design our custom save the date and invitation suite.  She completely understood our vision and helped bring a modern twist to our traditional wedding. The paper details on our wedding day matched our invitation perfectly. She created a custom monogram and flourish that were used throughout from the programs to the menus to the signage around the reception. Other touches included monogrammed cocktail napkins and guest towels, Mr. and Mrs. signs tied to our chairs, place cards, a Thank You banner, Sparkler Sendoff and Guest Book signs and kitschy late night food labels.

Looking back now, the day brings a huge smile to my face and will continue to do so for a lifetime.  It was filled with love, elegance, unimaginable joy and most of all FUN! It was an amazing celebration that represented Jason and me perfectly.

Inspiration: Cinco de Mayo Wedding Part II

It’s part two of the lovely Cinco de Mayo wedding shoot.  Part I was classic, with lots of white, and a simple elegant feel.  Part II is definitely more festive, with tons of bright colors, an adorable couple, and wedding party.  Thanks again to the inspiring team who put this all together.  Who’s ready for a margarita?
