Inspiration: Minnesota Farm Wedding

Minnesota Winter Wedding Inspiration

It’s been awhile since we shared an inspiration shoot, and with the weather as chilly as it is here in the midwest, this Minnesota farm wedding hits the mark perfectly.  With lovely images by one of our favorites, Erin Johnson, and a whole bunch of other amazing midwest vendors.  Here’s a little more about the inspiration from the shoot from Erin’s blog:

We are THRILLED to show you this post!  We found inspiration for this shoot in Carly’s Camilla Spode china {inherited from her grandmother}, red dogwood branches in the snow and Amy, Hannah and Nina–these three BEAUTIFUL girls!  {Oh…and Cian! Sorry, Cian!}.   Carly and I called on some of our favorite vendors to join us and this fun, vintage, winter shoot was born.Ashley, from Simply Elegant Bridal Consulting connected us with Seven Oaks Farm in Stillwater, Minnesota and we instantly fell in love.  Pulling onto Seven Oaks Farm is like pulling into Bing Crosby’s movie, Holiday Inn.  It’s picturesque and quaint and the perfect place for a wedding…and Carolyn and Herb, the owners, couldn’t be kinder or more accommodating.  The farm has beautiful, white-washed out-buildings—one of which is Wisconsin-style barn with a huge hay loft {and the site of our shoot}.

We set our scene with lots of lovely goods from On-Solid Ground Vintage RentalsLime Canary Vintage Rentals, and Festivities.   The Simply Elegant Bridal Consulting team and Sarah, from On-Solid Ground, joined us to pull everything together on-site.  It was such a blast to collaborate with these gals!
Local artists, Rachel and Allison Pegoraro created a one-of –a-kind thumbprint guest book. Allison Pegoraro lent a taxidermy faun, antlers and faun skins to bring in a bit of the quirk we’re known for. And, we can’t say enough about Rosann Konieczny Calligraphy! Her work totally elevated the invitations Carly made just for the shoot.

And, we were thrilled to have Chowgirls Killer Catering put out a beautiful and super tasty spread, along with the incredible custom sweets tables from Sweets Bakeshop.

To dress our models, we borrowed estate furs and vintage jewelry from Brides of France and dressed the bride in re-imagined couture gowns made especially for the occasion by JenMar Creations.  Christina, owner of Something Borrowed, came out with her entire inventory of veils and headpieces.  Dani and Angie from Salon Etica killed it with their beautiful hairstyles and I can’t get enough of the coral lips and cheeks {Make-up by Lydia at Salon Rox}.

Inspiration: Modern Great Gatsby

Is it just us or is the very thought of a Great Gatsby inspired wedding completing captivating?
All of that over-the-top elegance coupled with pursuit of the American Dream – what an opulent backdrop for saying “i do!”  Add to that, the undeniable glamour of the roaring twenties, and you have the type of lavish celebration that dreams and classic novels are made of.

Love is Sweet: Super Scrumptious Pie Buffet

We have a confession:  Pie is a major weakness for us.  So when we caught a glimpse of this scrumptious pie buffet at Lauren & Matt’s wedding, we knew we had to share the goods.
The couple can be described as total foodies, so it’s no surprise that so much time and effort were incorporated into their delicious dessert spread.  Of course, we love love love a traditional wedding cake, but who says you have to stop there?  Adding in a little variety and serving up a fun theme, allows your guests to have their cake and eat pie too!  And when the desserts are this tasty - well, that’s just the icing on the cake! … or the pie.  Take your pick … or just have both!  We won’t tell.

Floral Friday: A Bouquet of Sunshine

When you think of the color yellow what’s the first word that pops into your head.  Happy?  Me too, and that’s just what these beautiful flowers make me, super, duper happy (especially with winter fast approaching).  There’s so much to love, the variety of texture, the lovely boutonnieres, the soft grey dusty miller as a counterpoint to the bright yellow.  Plus who doesn’t love a good billy ball now and then, and it doesn’t hurt when the bride and groom look like models!  A huge thanks to Cathy and David Photographers for sharing, and to White Iris Designs for their beautiful flowers.  Happy Friday everyone!

Real Wedding: Jacqueline and Gavin, Desoto, Iowa

Jacqueline and Gavin share a love of the great outdoors.  After spending their very first date on a fishing expedition, they knew right away they had found the perfect catch in one another.  When it came time to plan their wedding, they knew they wanted to capture the very best of the fall in Iowa. They planned every detail – taking extra care to ensure that friends and family all had a role in the festivities.  Their day was exquisitely captured by Kyle Dreher, of Landing Feet First Photography and it’s easy to see these two share a love as pure as the sky is blue.  Thanks to Landing Feet First Photography for sharing these beautiful images and to Jacqueline and Gavin for sharing their day with us!

From the Bride, Jacqueline…

“Gavin and I have always shared the love of the outdoors – our first date was an all night fishing trip under the stars! I made him fall in love with me by outfishing him! We wanted our wedding to be as unique as us, so we started by deciding to get married outside and take advantage of the beautiful Iowa fall weather. Our wedding was filled with things we love; family, friends, fishing, hunting, gardening, and antiques! I loved the tables decorated with antiques, antlers, pheasant feathers and homegrown flowers. To make our guests feel at home, we enjoyed home cooked meal served family style and ate on antique china plates. Our family and friends made their best specialties for dessert! Our head table was a big family table where our families ate together like a Sunday dinner. My bouquet was made by my mom with brooches from family and friends. Gavin’s mom made all the hand-painted signs and my favorite “H” crested banner. My sister made our wedding cake and we used my grandpa’s caketopper from his wedding. We had a lot of fun canning veggies from our garden for guests to take home. I love that every detail of our wedding uniquely represented us – but the help and support from our family and friends made our wedding day as amazing as it was!”
