When I decide to include a business as one of Middle of the Maps “Featured Vendors”, I usually start out with a pretty standard set of questions to ask each owner about their work. However it’s their answers that really bring the post to life, and with Faith O. Folayan of Urbane Montage Events, her passion for all things wedding is easy to see. With her business she strives to bring an enthusiasm for creating an event that is unique to every couple she works with. Here’s a little more about Faith:
Urbane Montage Events is located in Minnesota in the Twin Cities area. However Faith will travel for out of town and destination weddings. She says she’s always had in interest in event design in coordination. As a teen in high school until today she actively participated in planning events both large and small. Throughout the years she participated in various groups and activities including working with the Science Museum of Minnesota’s Youth Center, student government, prom committee, the Impact Movement, non-profit work, and her sorority Delta Sigma Theta. However she says it took her years to realize she could turn her passion for planning into a career.
Faith started exploring the world of weddings in high school. She says: “My sister can tell you that I’ve always dreamt of the perfect wedding, never the perfect groom. I purchased many wedding magazines and created inspiration collages which I placed in sheet protectors. It is funny to see that my hobby wasn’t in vain.”
In 2004 Faith stepped into the role of bridesmaid for the first time. Celebrating the couples union and new life together took her breath away, and soon after she was given an opportunity to intern with a local planner. She loved it, and decided to start her own business.
Faith says she’s bursting with so many ideas for her company and couples she works with, and she can’t wait to implement them. She’s excited about the great vendor relationships she’s forged, and is inspired by her work each and every day. Her favorite part of working in the wedding industry? The relationship she forms with her couples. “I appreciate being a part of their day, and making sure it reflects who they are.”
A few words of advice to couples planning their weddings: “Make sure your day is a reflection of you, your style, and interests. Your wedding day is a celebration of your lives together so don’t get wrapped up in planning and lose sight of this. Stay organized: Create a wedding binder with inspirational pieces from magazines, wedding blogs, vendor information, and checklists.”
A big thank you to Faith for sharing her lovely business Urbane Montage Events. Make sure to check out her website, and follow her blog, twitter, or Facebook to stay updated on what she’s up to next.
