When I started writing Middle of the Map, I needed suggestions for floral vendors. Julie Blanner of Coordinately Yours recommended I check out Erin Volante Floral, and I wasn’t disappointed. Not only is Erin warm, and friendly, she’s also open to sharing ideas and collaborating, even with another floral vendor like myself. Read below to learn a little bit more about her and her amazing business.
Erin lives and works from her home in Lenexa, KS. She meets with her brides in her home office, and then does most of her design and creative work in her basement studio space.
Erin says she grew up in a family of gardners, and inherited her mother’s love of flowers. After her mother passed away while Erin was in college, she wanted to find a way to connect with that part of herself. She took a job in a Lawrence floral studio, as the shop “helper”, which quickly turned into design work.
She started her business, aptly named Erin Volante Floral, in 2003 after she and her husband were married. She says it felt like the right time, and she was really lucky to start booking weddings quickly.
Erin get’s her inspiration from lots of sources. First she reads blogs about all aspects of design, photography, and weddings, which helps her keep an eye on current trends. Second she says her clients are another great source of inspiration. She loves bringing their personalized vision to live. Her favorite flowers include vintage-inspired, fluffy, fragrant blooms, including peonies, sweet peas, lilac, viburnum, hydrangea, geranium, and the list goes on.
Her words of wisdom for couples picking their wedding flowers:
“Work with your designer to pick blooms that are truly in season- and if you have your heart set on something that won’t be available, just work together to find something similar in style! Don’t be afraid to let me know your budget up front- my job is to help you fit everything you’re hoping for into your budget, no matter how big or how small. Also, do your research and trust the people you hire as your wedding vendors- with a little freedom, we’ll give you even better results than you can imagine!”
When asked what her favorite part about being involved in the industry is Erin replies:
“I love weddings and the happiness that surrounds them…they are such a celebratory time in someone’s life. For me, there’s nothing more amazing than seeing a bride with tears in her eyes because she’s thrilled with her bouquet that I created. What a fun job, right?”
I hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know Erin, and been inspired by her lovely floral designs. Find out more about her business, or book her for your wedding: erinvolantefloral.blogspot.com
